The Panzerkampfwagen III Sd Kfz 141 tank was intended by the German command as the basic medium tank type in the German armed forces. In the years 1941–1943, PzKpfw Sd Kfz 141/1-2 Ausf. L/M/N tanks constituted the basic equipment of Panzerwaffe units. Apart from PzKpfw IV Sd Kfz 161 and PzKpfw V Sd Kfz 171 “Panther” tanks, vehicles of this type were manufactured in highest numbers by the German tank industry. PzKpfw III Ausf. L and M that became the standard armoured equipment and were allocated to German Panzerwaffe units during the eastern campaign in the 1942–1943 (Stalingrad, Khakov and Kursk) and Afrika Campaign in 1942–1943 (Gazala, El Alamein and Tunisia).
